Communication skills are not just something that will increase your quality of life.  They are a necessity if we want to raise Godly children in an ever increasingly secular world!

The goal isn’t to get your child through a speech communication class.  The goal is to get speech communication skills through to your child!  The only way for your child to feel more comfortable communicating is for them to gain experience.  The only way to gain experience is to allow themselves to take each step along the way stretching their communication muscles so to speak.

Introducing communication skills with humor breaks through the fear and makes learning this often intimidating subject fun!   Each study is designed with a creative and fun approach! Most of my communication texts in college were pretty dry reading.  It was the teacher’s approach that made learning fun.  I have designed all of Art of Eloquence studies with hands on activities that appeal to all five senses.  I use humor and creative stories to illustrate each communication skill.

As a Christian, I understand that the study of communication skills cannot be complete without a Biblical perspective.  The Lord has a lot to say about communication skills. He doesn’t mention every subject in His Word, but He does talk about how we communicate with each other hundreds of times!  I am often asked why I don’t “take the God parts out” of my studies so that they would be welcomed in secular public school.  The Lord created communication.  Studying communication without looking at it Biblically  would be like studying automobiles without teaching about Henry Ford!

Reasons to study communication skills:

You might be able to get through your entire life without making a speech, but you won’t get through one day without communicating to someone!
Effective communication, though purported to be important, is typically underestimated, neglected and misunderstood.

With so much confusion in the world about the Lord, whose job is it to communicate the truth?  OURS!
“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” -1Peter 3:15

Did you know that, depending upon what type of college your child attends, there is up to a 59% chance that they will come out four years later saying they are no longer born again?   How long would your son or daughter be able to hold his or her own with an argumentative and articulate college professor?

Everything you say and do (and some things you don’t say and don’t do) will communicate something to those around you who will make judgments based on that communication-right or wrong and whether you like it or not!

Studies show that effective communicators do better in school, have deeper relationships, are more successful in their chosen careers and are happier overall.  Effective communicators also do more for the Kingdom of God because you cannot share, discuss or defend your faith without first communicating!
